BMX promoter wins $8.8 million from wife's lover in bizarre lawsuit.
DURHAM, N.C. – A San Antonio man who was ordered to pay $8.8 million his lover’s jilted husband is appealing the ridiculous verdict.
The lawsuit was filed by businessman Keith King, who owns King BMX Stunt Show, which specializes in bicycle stunts shows.
King filed the lawsuit in April 2017 when his wife left him and his business profits suffered. She had worked for their company and King said he had to fire his wife when he found out she’d been unfaithful.
King accused Francisco Huizar III of San Antonio, Texas of seducing Danielle King and, in a bizarre but winning argument, he claimed, damaging his company.
North Carolina is one of few states which allows for inane lawsuits such as suing for money damages in such a situation. Huizar was accused of criminal conversation, alienation of affection, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress and assault and battery.
Ironically, King didn’t sue his former wife, who apparently was the actual seducer. Apparently Huizar has more money than King’s former wife.
Amazingly, King won a verdict of $2.2 million in compensatory damages and $6.6 million in punitive damages.
What is bizarre is King and his ex- wife both admitted during the trial that their eight year marriage was already pretty much over when she had the affair at issue in the caae. The Kings married in 2010 and by 2015 Danielle was having the affair with Huizar. Huizar and King’s wife met at a BMX show.
Court records show Danielle is 15 years younger than King. She admitted it was she who pursued Huizar beginning in 2015 and not the reverse. She said she had been unhappy in her marriage to King from the beginning.
What King was apparently really mad about was the loss of revenue for his company when he impulsively fired Danielle for the affair, which hit the company’s bottom line.
King’s attorney, Joanne Foil, argued the affair had a financial impact on King’s company, and
said King had to spend more money on household help, child care and counseling.
Cheri Patrick, Huizar’s attorney, argued the Kings’ marriage had been rocked well before her client met King’s wife.
