Huntsville cop busted after DUI wreck

Huntsville, AL. - An automobile wreck in the pre-dawn hours Saturday morning resulted in the arrest of an off-duty Huntsville police officer for DUI. The accident was investigated by Alabama state troopers, who made the arrest.

Curtis Mitchell, 22, was arrested and taken to Madison County Jail. He was released on $1,000 bond. Huntsville police Lt. Michael Johnson said Mitchell has been placed on administrative leave and his badge and gun have been taken.

Mitchell was driving a 2008 Honda CRV that hit a 2005 Chevrolet Avalance driven by Lewis Lockett, 53. The collision took place on Wall Triana Highway just north of the city of Madison.

Both men were injured and transported to a hospital for treatment.
