California man faces trial for trying to join ISIS terror group

A California man, arrested in Tunisia in 2016, was scheduled to appear in federal court in New York today to face charges of providing material support to terrorists.

Federal prosecutors claim Bernard Raymond Augustine, 20, an American citizen, was arrested after he flew from San Francisco to Tunisia, where he allegedly tried to enter Libya to join the Islamic State terrorist group.

Court records show that he told U.S. Customs officials upon departure he was intending to travel to Tunisia for vacation.

Federal agents claim they found internet posts in which Augustine allegedly praised ISIS and allegedly made other statements in support of the terror group.
